In praise of Gaia and her many manifestations. Songs for download, rants and rhapsodies on everything from music to metaphysics

the vision

Songs fly into my head and sing themselves to me, insisting that I give them voice. Who am I to resist? After so many years of discovery and recovery of my voice, words and self, I’m finally old enough to become whatever I am. Hallelujah and ah, woman!I have a vision to eventually travel with my guitar and my songs, to go where the wind blows, play in peoples’ homes and share my muse and heart in true troubadour fashion. In this vision, I need no roots. I am subject to holy wanderlust. For now, it’s a short road. I play where and when I can within the limits of my world here in mid-Vancouver Island.

My vision seems small, but looms large in my heart. Someday I may sing for my supper, and spread the beloved word as I go, moving from one house concert to another, breaking bread and sharing songs.

I love the experience of sidestep the usual separation paradigm of performer and audience, musician and fans. Ideally, music is a vessel for the nourishment of hearts and bodies, minds and spirits. This is my bliss: to sing for friends, whether I have met them yet or not.

Vision notwithstanding, I’m not at all averse to performing in public venues. In fact, I’m becoming quite an open mic junkie. If you go to the open mics at the Dancing Bean Cafe in Chemainus hosted by the Flying Accusations (the first Saturday of every month), the Singer-Songwriter’s Circle at the Mermaid’s Mug in Nanaimo (the second Thursday of the month) or the Gabriola Open Mic hosted by Penny Sidor on Gabriola Island (the second Saturday of the month) chances are good I’ll be there.

Come take a listen; the overall quality of material and performance at these events (and I don’t mean me; I’ll let you be the judge of that) is generally superb. I’m thrilled to be discovering the musical community here and honoured to be a part of it!
