“She says what?” Joe sounded angry but not surprised.

“She says you… did things to her when she was a child.”

“What does she say I did?”

“She hasn’t given details. She won’t talk about it.”

“And you’re kicking me out over that?”

“I’m not kicking you out. But I would prefer you stay away until I work this out with Nadia.” She added, hesitantly, “I want to rethink our relationship.”

“Ellen!” he cried, “Don’t you love me?”

“That depends what you did to my child, Joe.”

“Why don’t you ask me?”

“All right. What did you do to Nadia?”
